How did you meet?
We met whilst we were coaching Team Yorkshire Cheerleading together.
What is your engagement story?
We flew to Cappadocia in Turkey and checked in a couple of days before our anniversary. We explored the town and went up in a hot air balloon and everyone thought there was going to be an engagement at that point but instead I organised for a photographer the morning of our anniversary (at 4am) when the hot air balloons go up. We go downstairs and the receptionist says your driver will be here shortly and we were driven into the valleys to have photos taken but I wanted our photo on the roof of the hotel so we headed back to the hotel and the photographer asked her for a solo shot and then I came up to stand with her and said some sort of variation of ” I’ve thought of hundreds of ways to say how I feel about you and nothings come close other than I love you with all that I am. Stephanie Louise Needley will you marry me” I was so nervous I stumbled through but she said yes! As it was 4:30 by this point and we were 2 hours ahead of both of our parents, we had breakfast and went back to sleep for a couple of hours.
When and how did you know that you were the one for each other?
Eliot – I knew from our first date as I described on my speech. Steph was picking me up at my sister’s in hessle and I invited her in whilst I ironed a shirt, it also happened to be my niece’s second birthday party and my entire family was there. Steph took it in her stride and I know anyone who can do that so calmly has to be the one for me.
Steph – we went for our next date to Turtle Bay and spent hours talking about our plans for the future and we had almost every value aligned in terms of passion, creativity, drive and perseverance.
What do you love most about each other?
Our values, we pride ourselves on always pulling in the same direction and supporting each other as a partnership aswell as a relationship.
Where did you choose to get married?
Steph wanted to elope lol. I wanted the whole big white wedding. The minster was a no brainer, it was where Steph’s parents were married and Steph was christened and was the only place we wanted to get married. Carlton towers took our breath away from the first look and drive up to the main door. Inside it was perfectly laid out for everything we wanted and we immediately fell in love with it
What was important to you?
The photo at the font was high on the list to recreate. We wanted to spend as much time with family as possible with family members who aren’t usually in the same place at the same time
What was a memorable moment from your day?
The fireworks most definitely it was so perfect. Having everyone stops behind us and in awe of the display was a memory that will last a lifetime.
What would be your advice to other couples planning their wedding?
Don’t do everything yourself trust your fantastic suppliers. They are professionals with way more experience and know what works and doesn’t.
What was the inspiration/theme/styling of your wedding?
Carlton towers grandeur and gold walls led the inspirations for our “champagne” styling side and with our candlelight table settings this inspired the light in the cake
Tell me about your dress?
Elizabeth Lucas in Beverley. It was very important I wanted sleeves, and most dresses didn’t have them, we redesigned the entire top half of the dress and the seamstress jade was incredible in listening to every change and making it come to life.
What is ‘your song’ and why?
Our song is James TW – please keep loving me. This song embodies the small quirks we have such as Steph choosing outfits or the writing a message in steam. We also love country music so it fit everything we loved.
